Jogging and walking
Mammee Bay is a residential development containing mostly single-family dwellings, each of which is on a large lot. If you like to jog and take long walks you will love the quiet roadways that cut through Mammee Bay, which contains RIVIERA VILLA.
If you prefer having very private but nevertheless vigorous walks, put on good walking shoes or sneakers, and just walk INSIDE the fence that surrounds the edge of the property -- about 250 metres to go around once! Do that three times in a row and you will appreciate how much you can do to keep fit without ever leaving the property!
Sports
At the nearby Mammee Bay Beach Club you can get information about or arrange for deep sea fishing, horse-back riding, water skiing, sailing, snorkelling, etc. for fees. Tennis is available at a nearby villa, by arrangement (ask your on-site manager to contact the person in charge). There is an 18 hole golf course at Runaway Bay (30 minutes drive away).
Fun and games on hotel property
You can visit the Sandals Dunn's River hotel (very close to RIVIERA VILLA) and arrange for limited passes for breakfast, lunch or dinners, including entertainment. These passes are for couples. One to cover the period from early evening to after midnight costs a couple about $120 (US$). That covers dinner, shows, games, etc.
At the Jamaica Grande you can purchase a pass to the pools, and enjoy a whole day of fun, frolic and eating at their buffets. The cost is much lower than Sandals', and the entertainment is more family-oriented. Children can have a wonderful day at the Grande. One reason we set our rates so low is to allow you to have some 'extra change' in your pockets for such 'fun days at the Grande'. There is well-established taxi service to take you back and forth.
Why do we advertise the Grande? Because we've been there several times, it's great fun for the whole family and the buffets are nice (in 1996 $12 U.S. per person for lunch, and $20 U.S. per person for dinner -- the pool pass was $10 U.S. per person). There are several pools, often supervised games at one of them, and a big beach with many chairs you can rent. For those who are quite happy to return to a small hotel room each day, what the Grande offers is hard to beat. But for those who want to have 'the whole family' in a 'home away from home' where the staff gives you extra personal recognition and attention, a reasonably priced villa (like Riviera) that has good access to places like the Grande is also hard to beat.
Sightseeing
We suggest that you check with the chief attendant at the Beach Club for the various sightseeing activities. A visit to nearby Brimmer Hall Plantation, the Prospect Tour, Dunn's River Falls, Shaw Park Gardens, Fern Gully or the Green Grotto could add to your enjoyment. For longer excursions you may wish to visit one of the Estates or go rafting on the Rio Grande of the Martha Brae (hours' drive away).
