Welcome to The Ballet Centre, Kingston, Jamaica, balcen@cwjamaica.com. The Ballet Centre trains students from beginners through to professionals, devoting its efforts to the development of childrens' finest qualities of discipline and concentration upon achieving excellence. The Centre is proud of this tradition , which has lead to international recognition. For example, two of our students were admitted to the 1997 Summer Intensive Program of the Kirov Academy.

The Ballet Centre uses a focus on the disciplines of classical ballet in order to assist in the development of Jamaican children and to help create a pool of local dancers who have the basic training needed to become effective in using dance as a means of promoting and enhancing Jamaican culture. The Ballet Centre assists in the development of this pool of well-trained local dancers in at least three ways:

• Performers from leading theatrical groups or companies take regular classes at the Ballet Centre.
• Some persons who begin as students of the Ballet Centre eventually join local dance companies. Some of these students assist with instructional activities within those companies.
• The Ballet Centre often has requests for teachers to assist the modern dance companies.

In these ways, at least, the Ballet Centre's activities, have a role in the promotion of Jamaican national goals and the strengthening of indigenous Jamaican culture.

The benefits of the demanding discipline of ballet accrue over time and are not only physical but mental. As a result, children growing up in such a programme will develop both character and self discipline which will affect other areas of their school life and general development. They will also be exposed to the appreciation not only of dance but related subjects.

The Ballet Centre is supported by dedicated and outstanding dancers and teachers.

 The affairs of The Ballet Centre are managed and administered by a Director and a voluntary Management Committee of individuals from a variety of professions and organizations. There are also a Friends Committee and a Scholarship Committee, which are all actively involved with the Centre. General oversight is provided by the Board of Directors.
