Objectives of The Ballet Centre of Kingston, Jamaica

· To prepare students for entering tertiary institutions if dance is a career choice or to enter professional dance companies.

· To maintain a continuing programme that identifies children aged 8 to 10 years old for classical training (boys are sometimes accepted up to 14 years of age). There are many talented children in Jamaica who are interested in dance. The Ballet Centre is unique among Jamaican institutions in the use of training in the disciplines and techniques of classical ballet for the purpose of enhancing the talents of Jamaican children from various walks of life.

· To promote children's character development by establishing and maintaining standards pertaining to behaviour, academic and dance performance, encouraging self monitoring especially as regards discipline and time management, teaching appreciation of some great classical works.

· To maintain a continuing programme that identifies talented children from all walks of life and offer them opportunities to grow through training in classical ballet.

· To provide talented young Jamaicans with enhanced opportunities to participate in public performances from which they gain valuable experience and personal growth.

 

· To provide the accessories and apparel of classical ballet for our scholarship winners.

· To hold ballet workshops where local and overseas dancers and teachers share their knowledge

· To promote increased public awareness and appreciation of classical ballet by contributing to presentations of media programme demonstrations, interviews, lectures, and exhibitions.
