Frankly, we have found that many people in the travel business do not like to talk about security questions. Many of them would prefer that you pretend that a feature of the vacation they propose for you is that you "let your hair down and become totally carefree". Some people will make statements that you yourself know are incorrect in the world we have around us today, at least if you are frequent traveller.
Here's the funny thing about the dangers you face when you are having fun. For many SPORTS that might attract you as a participant, you risk being seriously injured or even killed as a result of participating in the sport -- downhill skiing and roadway cycling, horse-back riding, trampoline jumping, pole vaulting are all good examples. Yet we do not work ourselves up into "a state" over the risk to limb and life that these sports pose to the participants.
MANY of the world's most famous and widely used tourist attractions are places that have dangers that are equally widely known! People continue to travel to these places and simply take understandable extra precautions, just as you would if you set off on a cycling trip over the narrow roadways of Ontario, Canada.
SO --- let's talk about security.
Your security and the security of the staff and property are top priority issues in the management of Riviera. RIVIERA VILLA has a multi-faceted security system that places it FAR ABOVE most other villas with regard to security effectiveness. For obvious reasons, we must not publish information about the specific measures we have taken. You can learn about them when you arrive at the villa. We will also provide information by phone, FAX or E-mail once we are sure we 'know who you are'.
Travelling in one's own country in the 1990's, even just going to and from work, presents significant dangers that require the exercise of caution. Travelling to any foreign country adds to those dangers, if only because you will encounter unfamiliar plants, animals and people whose effect upon you cannot be predicted because of their unfamiliarity. Nor can you predict their reaction to things you might say, the manner in which you say what you have to say, or things you might do, unless you are a seasoned international traveller who already knows the local customs and behaviour patterns.
To some people this unpredictability is one of the stimulating aspects of travelling!
